Fort Necessity Battle Field
This historic site is one that marks the start of the French and Indian War, where the British, French, and Americans began their battle. This was the first military engagement and surrender by George Washington.
The reconstructed Fort Necessity is located in the Great Meadow, roughly 200 yards from the visitor center. At the fort, you can attend tours, talks, and watch historic weapons demonstrations throughout the summer. Hiking trails throughout the meadows and forest surrounding the fort are also available.
Flight 93 Memorial
The Flight 93 Memorial serves as a place for remembrance of the victims of September 11, 2001. Upon entering the memorial, the first thing you see is the Tower of Voices, a 93-foot tall monument that contains chimes representing the eternal voices of the 40 passengers and crew who were aboard Flight 93.
Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the Wall of Names and Memorial Plaza and view artifacts from September 11.
Fallingwater
Fallingwater is one of the 24 US UNESCO World Heritage sites and one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most acclaimed works. This legendary home rests over a waterfall and offers stunning architecture in a beautiful natural setting. Fallingwater was built in 1953 to serve as a residence and summer home, but is now open as a museum, to the public. Both guided and self-guided tours are available.
Great Allegheny Passage
For hiking and biking enthusiasts, look no further! The Great Allegheny Passage spans 150 miles of spectacular views between Cumberland, Maryland, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The path is mainly level and and travels though mountains and valleys, with views of the Monongahela, Casselman, and Youghiogheny Rivers.
Seven Springs Resort
If you are visiting the Laurel Highlands area in the wintertime, Seven Springs is the place to go! Activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are available. Their indoor activities include bowling, mini-golf, pool, and spa.
Ohiopyle State Park
Ohiopyle is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers; from waterfalls and white water rafting to tasty treats and delicious meals, the area is filled with something for everyone!
There are a variety of waterfalls throughout the Ohiopyle area. They include, Ohiopyle Falls, which you can visit to enjoy the view and do some white water kayaking with family and friends. Cucumber Falls is another popular spot to see! You can hike near the falls, swim, and enjoy a variety of other water activities.
In addition to listing the falls, Ohiopyle Trading Post offers safe, guided rafting tours at your chosen skill level. You can learn to kayak or rent a mountain bike to get around the town.
White Water Adventurers and Wilderness Voyageurs Rafting & Bike Tours are also great places to go for rafting and bike tours and rentals. They offer safe and exciting outdoor adventurers!
